Cons OEM card has no warranty and no manufacturer support. No DD pass through.
Recommended it? No

I purchased this card for the purpose of passing through Dolby Digital from my Home Theater PC to my external Sony amplifier. I could never get anything but 2 channel stereo to work. Pros Higher output than many USB adapters, well-made, easy installation of software/drivers.
Cons You MAY have to reboot or reinstall if you change USB ports...so don't.
Recommended it? Yes

Not really sure why another reviewer was having problems with this unit, but I have none at all. It's true that you have to reinstall or reboot if you relocate it from one USB port to another, but this is true of many USB devices (including a couple WiFi adapters I have).

Pros Good sound, entertaining software, small size.
Cons It isn't designed to accommodate a full set of surround sound speakers.
Recommended it? Yes

Times have changed since a cassette player with detachable speakers and a box of tapes provided the only way to get portable music.
