Nikon Coolpix 5000 Nikon Ups the Ante in the Digital Camera Wars

byHoward_Creech Jan 13, 2002
154 Helpfuls 155 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros 5 Megapixel Images, Pro metering, NO SHUTTER LAG
Cons Nothing important
Recommended it? Yes

For the past ten years professional and serious amateur photographers have wondered what digital photography was going to be like when it grew up. The answer to that question is pretty complicated, but the new Nikon Coolpix 5000 might be part of the answer. Every now and again there is a quantum... Read full review »

The Nikon Coolpix 5000 - Enter the world of 5-megapixel bliss - Part 1

byjag2112 May 21, 2002

Pros Incredible images. Numerous features. Good optics. Nikon name.
Cons Expensive. Only a 3x optical zoom. Some shutter lag.
Recommended it? Yes

That was then. This is now.

As more and more images are... Read full review »

Canon PowerShot G12: A smartly improved G11

bytheuerkorn Nov 2, 2010
32 Helpfuls 33 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros 720p video w/ stereo audio, Hybrid IS, front wheel, leveling indicator, excellent sensor...
Cons Somewhat slow AF, overall few significant changes over PowerShot G11
Recommended it? Yes

It has only been last year (2009) that Canon abandoned the MPx race and focused on picture quality in this market segment. The G11's 10 MPx stepped back from the G10's zenith of the megapixel race with 14.7 MPx in such a small sensor. While other market segment continue the mindless race, at least... Read full review »

The Canon Powershot G12 Digital Camera a great point-and-shoot

bytexas-swede Dec 26, 2010
30 Helpfuls 31 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Excellent picture quality, low light picture quality, HS System, Hybrid IS, HD Video,...
Cons Aperture dial is a little hard to turn, view finder very small.
Recommended it? Yes

My middle son is interested in photography and he is taking a photograph class. We could not find the old family camera (Canon Powershot S3 IS) so we needed to get a new one. The Canon Powershot S3 IS was also not entirely sufficient for the class.

For his class he needed something better... Read full review »
