One remote to rule them all.....

byfuse Oct 22, 2005

Pros Setup could not be easier, flexibility, a true universal remote
Cons Price, no RF, button feel, somewhat awkward in size
Recommended it? Yes

My first foray into the universal remote control world was the Kameleon 8 in 1 universal remote. Pretty cool concept, but if you had a cable box DVR (in other words, an integrated tuner/PVR type solution), the Kameleon fell short. Don't get me wrong, the Kameleon is a decent remote for the price,... Read full review »

Pros Simplifies all the devices into one.
Cons Still not ready for prime time for most of us because of complexity and price.
Recommended it? Yes

Handheld remote controls are, like the VCR and its derivatives, something our kids take for granted but something that came into many of our lives when we reached adulthood. I know this dates me (doesn't everything now?), but there was a time when, if you wanted to change channels or adjust the... Read full review »

If you watched the first season if The Osbournes on MTV, you may remember a scene where a pharmaceutically addled Ozzy struggled to use his TV using a remote control so bulky it needed to be handled with both hands. As someone who last year graduated from a basic TV and DVD/VCR combo to an HDTV... Read full review »

I bought one from Best Buy hoping that I would finally be able to put away all of my remotes. I still own a Philips Pronto but stopped using it after I got my Tivo. Touch screens are fine for occasionally hitting a button but if you're like me and bounce between the FF, pause/play, and guide... Read full review »

Nice step forward for the Harmony Line-up

Cons Some firmware improvements needed.

The Harmony 880 Universal remote is the newest in the Harmony family of web programmable activity based remotes. The Harmony line up is the only remote I know of that looks at the functionality of using a remote as an activity rather than steps of buttons to be pressed. I'm not talking about... Logitech Harmony 880 Remote: best value

Pros Good, but flawed base design
Cons Third unit works well

I bought a Harmony 880 remote in January...

I have a home theater setup which I enjoy immensely, but the use of four remotes in the dark made it an annoying endeavor. I don't know what the folks at Onkyo were thinking - the remote on my unit feels and weights the same up-side up as well... Read full review »

I've owned and used a Harmony 680 for over a year now and have loved it. It was dropped a few times, a couple pieces of the casing have broken off, but it's continued to work. But it was time to move it to our secondary TV system and replace it with something newer. Enter the 880.

PROS... Read full review »

Great remote, but not for the timid.

I got my Harmony 880 at Best Buy in Feb. 2006 for $249 and it came with a $25 Main-in rebate. After researching on-line that was in-line with most retailers. I did not want to spend that much initially, but it is well worth the money to take the three other clunky remotes I was... Read full review »
