Audigy 2 Value

Pros Good sound for games and playback.
Cons Only way to record is using Line-In with an RCA to miniplug.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Good card for games/playbacks. Vendors get the label "greedy" when hiding an add-on product that hogs another PCI slot plus costs more than the sound card.
Why did I buy?
I wanted a cheap yet dependable card that could xfer 24-bit digital audio to my hard drive without data conversion. I wanted my 24-bit mixes from my recorder untouched as a bit-to-bit transfer.

Describe your experience:
Good sounding card that can play 24-bit audio and really enhanced the sound from what I was use to on the computer. Exactly the sound I was expecting. Didn't install on first pass and popped up a bunch of error dialog boxes with: can't find plxcore.dll or something to that effect. It then did not register the Creative components into my system properly so I couldn't use any. After searching the Creative forum I found my exact condition and had to delete a couple of keys using regedit, and then do a "fix install" again and it worked. There was a bunch of house cleaning to accomplish this, including kill active Creative processes before I could delete the Program Files\Creative folder.

What do you love about this product?
The 24-bit sound is great and really enhances DVD and game playback. But, it is strictly a game card in my opinion.

What do you hate?
Here is what was advertised before I bought the card:
1 x Aux Audio in

1 x Microphone In

1 x Line In

1 x Line Out

1 x Optical/Coxial Digital Input

1 x Optical/Coxial Digital Output

The above description strongly indicates that by using a (Sony Phillips interface) SPDIF cable that you can record using the Digital I/O port on the card. This is not the case. In fact, you cannot record digital input at all without purchasesing the Create "Optical Digital I/O Card I" for the Audigy 2 series. That means spend an extra $59 if you want to use SPDIF I/O connections or operations. The description of this product is very misleading so am just warning anybody that wants to use digital speakers or hookup a device to record with using a Sony/Phillips get another card that already has these connections onboard.
