I have had this camera...
I have had this camera now for almost one year. During this time I have taken more than 2,000 photographs. Of these, more than 1,000 were truly spectacular. Fewer than 100 were under/over-exposed. Nikon 5000 has widest Coolpix lens -- still
The Nikon 5000 has a 28mm lens, which goes down to 19mm with an accessory. This is the widest lens of any Coolpix, even now. The lens quality is outstanding. Good camera but I'd rather go with the D3100 or upgrade to the D5100
The D5000 is a really good camera but it is somewhat dated compared to the D3100 (except the pull out screen if you are into that) and the D5100 which is what you should go for.
