The Bottom Line:
An almost professional camera for the amateur who thinks they're professional
I've owned a Nikon Coolpix for over 5 years - I moved onto this one as soon as it comes out (I send the old ones to my mother, who promptly manages to hose them). As someone who has lived through the trials and tribulations of the various versions, and upgrades, I am, as are most, very pleased with this version.
The good: swiveling screen to do self portraits and such (very handy), easy to remove memory card, good battery life (if you turn off the screen), very very good quality. What new buyers don't understand with the megapixels is that if you take a picture with this camera, and decide to crop it down, then blow up that smaller area, the clarity is a lot better then in a lower megapixel camera. And, lets face it, one of the main reasons to go digital is to manipulate your images.
The bad: it's sort of delicate, it's slow in taking a shot - so I don't even bother with this when I am trying for candid or spontaneous shots, it eats battery life (always buy spares), and it is more delicate then a point and shoot (it's a small computer).
I have recommended this to friends who have the hardware and software to really appreciate and use it's features, and can stomach the price tag (dropping much since I had to get it in my red hot hands). I am loyal to the Nikon Coolpix brand because they have never disappointed me, which is easy to do.
